Five garments that carry the colour, ornament and pride of the Samburu into a contemporary wardrobe.
Tribal Threads is a collection of five garments designed during the final semester of my bachelor’s degree. It brings culture and creativity together in a study of artistry, colour and innovation.
Native to the arid regions of northern Kenya, the Samburu are known for a rich cultural heritage and vibrant traditions. Their colourful attire, adorned with intricate beadwork, is an expression of identity. Their deep respect for nature, and their commitment to preserving a way of life amidst the challenges of modernity, became the thread running through every look.
The collection was presented on the runway at Shears and Rubans, 2023.
